Ok, I know all mother's say this...but, "boy, I can't believe it has been a year!" It really has been a blur. With two kids running around, it is harder to focus on all the little things. So, sometimes I feel like I miss stuff, but I am amazed at how much he has grown and I love watching his little personality come out. He is definitely going to be a little ham.
Let's see...in this past year, he has learned a lot. He is crawling all over the place and he can walk while holding on to things. I don't think it will be too long before he is walking and chasing after his sister by himself.
He has a few "words" in his vocabulary. He says mama and dada, but it is pretty rare. Honestly, the mama comes out more when he is super tired or sick. He does "talk" a lot though, he babbles on about the most interesting things. And sometimes he gets so in to it, he will raise his eyebrows and point his little finger for extra expression. I think he will be a passionate person. I have heard a few other little words come out...when he plays with his cars, which he likes to roll around on the floor, I swear I have heard him say "vroom, vroom".
He is getting more and more aware of his surroundings. He has started pointing at things with a questioning eye. And he has definitely learned how to let us know when he isn't happy. If we take something away from him, he will give out a scream in protest. He learned to wave bye bye and will usually do it on queue. And he has the cutest grin. He can turn it on just when he needs to.
Aydan loves to play with anything musical. He likes to play with the keyboard, or if we put in a cd in the player he gets a smile on his face. He likes to bang the drumsticks too. Even at 1 year old, he has a good beat already. Something he definitely doesn't get from his mama.
Aydan's sleep habits aren't the best, but I am hoping that it will soon get better. He has always been good at going to bed. He goes to bed right about 7pm every night. But, he will wake up any time between 4 and 6 am. Sometimes he goes back to sleep after a bottle, and sometimes he doesn't. We thought about making his bedtime later, but he is so ready for bed at 7 o'clock, it would be hard to keep him up. Nap times are pretty good. He had been on a three naps a day routine, but lately he has been fussy or not sleeping, so I think he is trying to get himself in to a two nap routine. We will get there.
He loves to play with his sister. He will follow her around and try and grab everything she is playing with. She is a very good big sister...with the occasional set back from trying to lay on him...or trap him in the closet...ya know, those "loving" things that kids like to do to each other.
He really has no interest in the tv. Which is fine by me. Charly was already in to toons at this age, and Aydan just doesn't really care. He would rather play or listen to music.
He really isn't any more of a mama's boy or daddy's boy at this stage. He used to lean more towards being a mama's boy, but now he favors both of us pretty equally.
He loves to go outside. I think he will be an outside kid like his sister. If we have the front door open and just the screen shut, he will stand up and look outside. As soon as it is nice, we will let him just run around the yard, and I am sure he will be as happy as a clam.
Food. Aydan will eat just about anything. He scarfs eggs down like no other. And you should see him with cheese. He shovels it in so fast, like he was starving. Cottage cheese, cheddar cheese, he likes it all. He doesn't snack too much, but at meal times, he definitely likes to feed himself. He will close his mouth if you try and feed him yourself. But, if you put it in your hand for him to pick up and eat himself, he is more then happy.
This seems like such a small list of everything that has happened in the past year and everything that he has learned. But, it is a "recap". We have just had so much fun watching him grow up. I am amazed at all of my kids and love to see the people they are turning in to.
